It is a rich source of natural polysaccharides with a proven ability to enhance skin's barrier function, replenish the skin's natural water reservoir, and increase its moisture-retention capabilities. It contains high quantities of sulfated polysaccharides (carrageenan), peptides, carotenoids, and fatty acids. Research has shown that the high antioxidant agents in red algae protect against premature skin-aging. *

Carrageenan (Red Algae):

Are the polysaccharides extracted from algae and contain proteins, vitamin A, sugar, starch, vitamin B1, iron, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, and calcium. Many of these elements are beneficial for skin as emollients, soothing agents, or antioxidants. (Source: Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry, February 2002, pages 840-845)

Carrageenan a source of Glycoproteins which are integral to maintaining healthy youthful skin and are known for their oxygenating, rejuvenating and revitalizing properties. Glycoproteins are a combination of mainly intracellular proteins, peptides and amino acids.  Its revitalizing capacity strengthens the skin's natural ability to protect itself against damaging environmental influences. In in-vitro studies glycoproteins have been shown to boost oxygen content, increase the cellular respiration capacity, and increase the energy level of skin cells. Glycoproteins also have moisturizing properties due to their content of water-binding polysaccharides (sugars). Glycoproteins promote rejuvenation, youthful and healthier looking skin.

Macrocystis Pyrifera (Kelp) Extract

Macrocystis Pyrifera Extract is an extract of giant brown seaweed. Macrocystis Pyrifera, found in the Antarctic, coast of the eastern Pacific Ocean. Sea kelp is a source of iodine, vitamins and minerals, antioxidants. It is an anti-septic and anti-irritant that stimulates, moisturizes, softens and regulates the tone and texture of the skin.  Kelp also contains elements that help remove toxins, soothe and can easily penetrate the skin for instant hydration. This nourishing extract has no adverse side effects, helps prevent wrinkles.  It contains silicone, which is believed helps prevent the skin from sagging. Kelp can also help prevent the breakdown of elastin and collagen, promoting a youthful appearance.
